The story follows Dr. Rick Marshall (played by ), a disgraced paleontologist whose radical theories on time travel and "tachyon energy" made him a laughingstock in the scientific community. During a demonstration, Marshall activates his "Tachyon Amplifier," which opens a portal that sucks all three of them into a bizarre and dangerous parallel world—a strange land lost in time.
